چکیده

agents has received considerable experimental at tention during the last few years, and a variety of mechanisms of action have been postulated to ac count for the effect. Much of this investigation has centered on the interaction of these agents with deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) (1, 3, 4, 9, 11, 13, 19—9292)following the initial suggestion by Elmore et at. (8) that sulfur mustard probably attacked the phosphate moieties of the DNA molecule. Rut man et at. (14) have suggested that the biological effectiveness of the mustards may not bear any quantitative relation to the extent of alkylation; rather, the specific type of reaction may be more important than the gross extent of the reaction. Drysdale et at. (6) and Trams et a!. (19), however, have discussed the possibility that the attack on the DNA molecule may not represent the specific mechanism of action of these cytotoxic compounds and that other reactions may be of more impor tance. It must be conceded, therefore, that the specific chemical reaction with the DNA molecule or other cellular constituent that is responsible for the growth-inhibitory and cytotoxic effects of

The reaction of mustard gas with nucleic acids in vitro and in vivo.

Mustard gas [di-(2-chloroethyl) sulphide] and analogous alkylating agents produce a wide range of biological effects (cf. review by Boyland, 1948). Some ofthese effects, such as induction ofmutations (Auerbach & Robson, 1946) and interference with mitosis and chromosome breakage (Darlington & Koller, 1947), stimulated interest in the reactions of alkylating agents with deoxyribonucleic acid. The Dissociability of Deoxyribonucleic Acid Synthesis from the Development of Multinuclearity of Muscle Cells in Culture

The effects of a nitrogen mustard on both the morphology and several synthetic capacities of embryonic chick skeletal muscle cells in monolayer culture have been examined. Concentrations of nitrogen mustard which profoundly inhibit deoxyribonucleic acid synthesis specifically do not inhibit the development of multinuclearity in the contractile "ribbons" which form rapidly in culture. Nitrogen m...

Evaluation of Chronotropic Properties of Mouse Embryonic Stem Cells-Derived Cardiomyocytes After Fibroblast Growth Factor Treatment

Purpose: We investigated the effect of (bFGF) (basic-Fibroblast Growth Factor) on the differentiation of divided cardiomyocytes from mouse embryonic stem cells (ES) and their pharmacological properties. Materials and Methods: The mouse embryonic stem cells (Royan B1) were cultured as 800 cells per 20µl of a hanging drop. After two days, ES cells in each drop aggregated to form embryoid bodies ...

The effect of Fibroblast Growth Factor-2(FGF-2) and retinoic acid on differentiation of mouse embryonic stem cells into neural cells

Introduction: Embryonic Stem (ES) cells as pluripotent cells derived from the inner cell mass of blastula can differentiate to neural cells in vitro and this property is valuable in studies of neurogenesis and in the generation of donor cells for transplantation. In this regard, the propose of this research, was the study of the role of two important factors in the development of neural syst...

Evaluation the Effect of Wild Mustard Densities and Nitrogen Fertilizer on Wheat Yield and Correlation between Traits

In order to study the effects of wild mustard competition and different levels of nitrogen on effective traits of wheat yield, this research was conducted in Ahvaz, south west of Iran. The study was consisted of a split plot experiment, on the basis of Randomized Complete Blocks Design with three replications. Different levels of nitrogen (90, 150 and 210 kgN.ha-1) were assigned in the main plo...
